The Power of Networking: How It Helped Me Build a Creative Business

I’m Ana Verónica Rosales, founder of AVR Media Group. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years in the video production industry is this: talent and creativity can open doors, but relationships are what keep them open.

We often focus on refining our craft, updating our portfolios, or investing in better gear, and yes, all of that matters, but there’s something equally important that we sometimes overlook: networking.

Building real connections with other professionals, brands, creatives, and entrepreneurs has been a key part of how I’ve been able to take my company to new levels, walk through doors I never imagined, and form partnerships that continue to create value today.

Why has networking been so important in my journey?

  1. Opportunities aren’t always found online
Some of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on didn’t come from a search engine, they came from a conversation, a referral, or a meaningful coffee chat.
  2. Trust goes beyond the portfolio
Showcasing your work is important, yes, but when you connect on a human level, when people see your passion and integrity up close, that’s when real trust is built. And in this industry, trust is everything.
  3. There’s always something new to learn
Every interaction has taught me something, whether it’s a new filming technique or a fresh way of telling stories. Networking has led me to powerful collaborations that have expanded both my creative vision and my business reach.

How I approach networking with intention

  • I go where the conversations are: industry events, festivals, workshops, and panels. These are where I’ve met incredible people who’ve inspired me and even become collaborators.
  • I connect genuinely: on social media, I make an effort to engage with and support others’ work authentically. Real connections start with real interest.
  • And yes, I follow up: if someone inspires me or I see potential for collaboration, I reach out. I follow up. I nurture the relationship.

My advice if you’re building (or rebuilding) your business

Step out of your comfort zone. Be visible. Share your story. Talk about your process. Your next big client, creative partner, or mentor could be on the other side of your next conversation, even a casual one.

Today, more than ever, I believe that your network is one of your most powerful assets. Care for it, grow it, and build it from a place of authenticity.

Because when you grow in community, everything starts to flow with more purpose.

👉🏼 If this resonated with you or you think it could help someone in your network, feel free to share it.

Let’s keep building bridges and supporting each other in this creative journey.
